Region: Khomas

Khomas is home to Windhoek, Namibia’s capital, and the surrounding highland farmland of the Khomas Hochland. Campsites here suit both overnight stopovers for travellers arriving or departing via Hosea Kutako International Airport and weekend trips for locals, ranging from guest farms in the mountains west of the city to riverside camps a short drive from the CBD.

    Directions: Bobbejaan Dam Tented Chalets is located about 60-70km from Windhoek off the Windhoek/Gobabis Highway, in the Otjihavera Mountains. A vehicle with good ground clearance is recommended for the gravel access road.

    Activities: Game drives (morning and evening), hiking trails, horseback game viewing, bird-watching and fishing.

    Directions: Camp Gecko is a private nature reserve located directly below the Spreetshoogte Pass, close to Solitaire.

    Activities: Hiking, wildlife and waterhole viewing, and mountain scenery photography.

    • Three individually designed campsites — Eagle, Moonlight and Hilltop — each with panoramic views
    • Private bathroom (some open-air) with shower and toilet at each site

  • Elisenheim Guestfarm & Camping

    Elisenheim Guestfarm & Camping

    Directions: Elisenheim Guest Farm is in the Eros Mountains, about 15km from Windhoek.

    Activities: Game viewing at nearby waterholes, and a 4×4 off-road trail through the mountainous farmland.

    Krumhuk Campsite

    Directions: Krumhuk Farm lies about 20-25km south of Windhoek in the Khomas region.

    Activities: Hiking trails through valleys, woods and mountains; wildlife viewing (oryx, kudu, springbok, Hartmann’s zebra, warthogs); farm visits with fresh dairy, meat, bread and seasonal produce for sale.

    Amenities:

    • Camp Regenstein, a nature campsite about 3km from the farmstead, reachable via 4×4 farm road

    Namib’s Valley of a Thousand Hills

    Directions: Located near Solitaire, midway between Windhoek, Swakopmund and Sossusvlei. From Solitaire, take the C14/M36 northwest, turn right onto the C26/M49, and after about 7.8km turn right onto a private road leading to the valley.

    Activities: Hiking trails through the Guab Valley’s hills, wildlife viewing (kudu, bat-eared fox) and photography.

    • Three campsites, each with its own ablution facility
