Erongo is Namibia’s most visited coastal and central region, stretching from the Atlantic seaboard at Swakopmund and Walvis Bay inland to the granite domes of Spitzkoppe and the Erongo Mountains. It has more campsites in our directory than any other region — from full-service coastal caravan parks to remote fishing spots along the Skeleton Coast and rustic bush camps near ancient San rock art. Erongo works well as a base for both beach time and desert scenery without the long drives needed elsewhere in the country.
Directions: About 35 km southeast of Walvis Bay, near Rooibank.
Activities: Base for guided 4×4 desert tours to the Topnaar community – a tour operator escort is required, as the dune and mud-flat terrain is difficult and ecologically sensitive.

Activities: Western-style horse riding along the beach or in the desert, kiddies’ play area.

Directions: Etusis Lodge sits within the 21,000-hectare Etusis Nature Reserve, about 2.5 hours’ drive from Swakopmund or Windhoek, near Usakos. The campsites are located about 20km from the main lodge.
Activities: Horseback riding on Basotho horses, game drives, and hiking in the reserve’s hills.

Ten spacious campsites, semi-enclosed for additional privacy, bestow all the necessities for a camper’s getaway. Another two larger sites provide space for family and friends travelling together.
The communal ablution facilities are modern and provide all essential conveniences. A separate utility area for washing dishes and doing laundry is also available.

Directions: Gobabeb is located in the Namib-Naukluft Park, about 120km southeast of Walvis Bay, at the meeting point of the dune sea, gravel plains and the Kuiseb River.
Activities: Desert ecology walks and access to the research centre’s guided programmes; a rare opportunity to see three distinct Namib ecosystems in one location.

No facilities or reception – bring your own equipment, food, water and firewood. A permit must be bought in advance from a Ministry of Environment and Tourism (MET) office (Swakopmund, Walvis Bay or Sesriem, Mon–Fri 08:00–13:00 & 14:00–17:00). First-come, first-served – no advance booking.
Directions: Toilet 7 Noord Fishing Area is one of the numbered/named fishing spots along the Dorob National Park coastline along the coast near Henties Bay.
