Park / Reserve: Skeleton Coast

Namibia’s Skeleton Coast stretches from Swakopmund north through Henties Bay and the Dorob and Skeleton Coast National Parks, a foggy, wind-scoured shoreline littered with shipwrecks and prized by anglers for galjoen, kabeljou and steenbras. Dozens of named fishing spots dot the coast road north of Henties Bay, each with its own basic pull-off camping area, while Swakopmund and Walvis Bay offer full-service coastal camping with restaurants, activities and easy access to the Cape Cross seal colony and Dorob National Park’s lichen fields.

    Directions: Lux Klip Fishing Area is one of the numbered/named fishing spots along the Dorob National Park coastline along the coast near Henties Bay.

    Activities: Shore angling (galjoen, kabeljou, steenbras and other surf species), 4×4 beach driving on designated tracks.

    Amenities:

    • Basic, largely undeveloped coastal camping/fishing spot — bring your own water, shade and supplies

    Note: A fishing permit from the Ministry of Fisheries and Marine Resources (offices in Swakopmund, Walvis Bay or Lüderitz) is required for angling; rates are approximately N$14/month or N$168/year. Vehicles must stay on marked tracks within Dorob National Park.

  • Mile 4 Caravan Park

    Mile 4 Caravan Park

    Directions: Mile 4 Caravan Park is located on Dolphin Drive, north of Swakopmund on the coast, right next to the beach.

    Activities: Beach walks, fishing and sunset viewing from the bar deck.

    Amenities:

    • Camp sites with electrical points and ablution blocks
    • Cluster campsites with their own ablution facilities
    • Cooking facilities
    • Bar with built-in braai
    • Self-catering and backpacker dorm accommodation also available

    Rates: From around N$80-100 per person for basic sites; sites with electricity around N$160 plus N$100 per person.

    Directions: Trappies Fishing Area is one of the numbered/named fishing spots along the Dorob National Park coastline along the coast near Henties Bay.

  • Wlotzkabaken 

    Wlotzkabaken 

    Directions: Wlotzkasbaken is a small holiday settlement on the Atlantic coast, roughly halfway between Swakopmund and Henties Bay, within the Dorob National Park.

    Activities: Shore angling — the village hosts the annual “Marterpfahl” angling festival between Christmas and New Year. Extensive lichen fields surround the settlement.

    Amenities:

    • Mostly privately-owned holiday houses; limited formal camping infrastructure
    • Basic — bring your own supplies
