//Karas is Namibia’s vast, sparsely populated deep south, dominated by the Fish River Canyon — the second-largest canyon in the world — and the arid plains stretching toward the South African border. Campsites cluster around Keetmanshoop, Grünau and Karasburg, serving both canyon hikers and travellers looping between the Kalahari, the coast at Lüderitz, and the border crossing at Noordoewer.

    This quaint old farmhouse with 9 rooms (27 beds), 5 bathrooms and a spacious veranda is suitable for bigger groups. Battlesnake Camp – This camp on the edge of the Canyon offers breath-taking views, 10 cabins (14 beds) and communal ablution facilities. Experience the magical atmosphere of our rustic self-catering camps in the northern reaches of the Fish River Canyon. Take a leisurely 4×4 drive to one of our unique camps and enjoy the tranquility and peace in the most spectacular rugged landscape of the Fish River Canyon. Or start your hiking adventure from Klipspringer Base Camp to Koelkrans, Horseshoe and Battlesnake Camp.

    Each camp has cabins with beds and mattresses as well as communal bathrooms. A central cabin serves as a dining area and kitchen, while a fire pit or braai-place outdoors is provided for braais/barbeques. Each camp has its own cutlery and crockery, including a kettle, braai grids and a gas stove. Firewood is available. For detailed information on each camp please download the info pack on the right.

    The Canyon Klipspringer Camps are bookable all year; however, hiking is only permitted between April to September. Trail maps will be provided. Continue through the town to the T-junction, then turn left onto the C14 road and continue for 35km. Turn right on to D824 road. Continue for 11km and follow the D831 road on your left. Then turn right onto the D826 road towards Duwisib Castle. Continue to Betta, then turn left onto the C27 road towards Farm Spes Bona. At Spes Bona, turn right onto the D707 road and continue for 45km to the entrance of Kanaan. – 33000 hectares of beautifully-preserved landscape in the Namib Desert is a photographer’s paradise. With endless red dunes, crystal clear night skies, and mouth-watering, home-made cuisine – Kanaan is the ultimate ecotourism destination.     -28.6968, 17.49771 The Growcery Camp is a mere 22km west of the Vioolsdrift and Noordoewer Border post. This border is the 24hour border post between Namibia and South Africa. The Camp is in South Africa and on the banks of the Orange River. Overlooking the Orange River and Namibia will be your views from Camp. COMING FROM SPRINGBOK N7

    There is one road before the border post about 30meters before the border gate on your left. This road has a sign Kotzehoop.

    You take a left turn 30 meters before the border post when you are coming from South Africa. Once you have turned left, there is a T junction 60 meters further. Take a right and follow this road past the police station. The Police station will be on your left and the orange River on your right-hand side. This road is the only road along the river. Follow this road for 22km, and you will find the Directions Growcery Camp to be very easy. CAMPSITES: 14 Campsites, ranging from River Views/ Private View/ Distance View/ 2-12 People per Campsite

    There is a BBQ area with a kitchenette as well. You can make use of the self-catering facilities or join us for a hearty fresh-cooked meal.

    The Growcery Camp’s Chic Shacks are value-for-money accommodation. It’s basic and comfortable. There are ten units, and we can accommodate a maximum of 20 travelers at any given point in time. Your vehicles can be safely parked close to your Chic Shack of choice. This is the perfect upgrade to camping and we refer to our shacks as glamping units rather than lodge units. It is definitely not luxury, but rather quirky, clean, and neat glamping accommodation. Rate are from N$ 280 – N$ 550 pp sharing
