Region: Kavango

Kavango stretches along the Okavango River in north-eastern Namibia, centred on the river town of Rundu. Campsites here sit directly on the riverbank, offering fishing, birdwatching and houseboat trips, and serve as a stopover for travellers continuing east into the Caprivi/Zambezi Region or west back toward Etosha.

    Directions: On the B8 main road at the Mururani Gate, halfway between Grootfontein and Rundu.

    Activities: Game drives to Mangetti National Park.

    Directions: 81 km east of Rundu on the B8, then about 4 km off the B8 on the D3402, on the Kavango River.

    Activities: Sunset cruises, hippo/crocodile/otter viewing, fishing trips, bird watching.

  • Kaisosi River Lodge

    Kaisosi River Lodge

    Directions: Kaisosi River Lodge is located 7km east of Rundu, on the banks of the Kavango River. Accessible by normal sedan vehicle.

    Activities: Birdwatching cruises, sunset cruises, champagne breakfast cruises, and fishing trips on the Kavango River.

    Directions: On the Okavango River, about 21 km east of Rundu.

    Activities: Guided community tours, sundowner river cruises, traditional dance shows.

    Directions: About 10 minutes’ drive from Rundu centre, overlooking the Okavango River floodplain, on the site of a former military base.

    Activities: Boat cruises, walking trails, village tours, canoeing; Mangetti National Park and Khaudum Game Reserve about 1.5 hours away.

    Directions: In the southern part of Khaudum National Park, about 7 km from Sikereti Gate. 4×4 only.

    Activities: Wildlife viewing (elephant, lion, diverse antelope) in an unfenced wilderness camp.

    • 4 campsites, each with private washing-up area, donkey-heated hot shower, flush toilet and fireplace
    • 8-unit tented camp also available with en-suite and elevated deck

    Reopened in July 2022 after modernisation.
