Region: Kavango

Kavango stretches along the Okavango River in north-eastern Namibia, centred on the river town of Rundu. Campsites here sit directly on the riverbank, offering fishing, birdwatching and houseboat trips, and serve as a stopover for travellers continuing east into the Caprivi/Zambezi Region or west back toward Etosha.

    Directions: On the B8 main road at the Mururani Gate, halfway between Grootfontein and Rundu.

    Activities: Game drives to Mangetti National Park.

    Directions: About 10 minutes’ drive from Rundu centre, overlooking the Okavango River floodplain, on the site of a former military base.

    Activities: Boat cruises, walking trails, village tours, canoeing; Mangetti National Park and Khaudum Game Reserve about 1.5 hours away.

    Activities: Wildlife viewing (elephant, lion, diverse antelope) in an unfenced wilderness camp.

    Khaudum Camp is located in the northern part of Khaudum National Park. The camp has been privatised and completely renovated in 2015. Khaudum Park is an almost undeveloped wilderness area bordering Botswana that is accessed in 4 x 4 vehicles only (minimum 2 vehicles in a group) Spectacular landscapes, abundant wildlife, with a chance to see rare wild dogs and rare roan antelopes.

    Khaudum must be entered by at least two 4×4 offroad vehicles per party
