Park / Reserve: Sossusvlei & Namib-Naukluft
Sossusvlei and the wider Namib-Naukluft National Park are home to the world’s tallest sand dunes and the eerie, sun-bleached camelthorn trees of Deadvlei — Namibia’s single most photographed landscape and the reason many visitors come to the country at all. Dune 45 and Big Daddy draw sunrise hikers, while the gateway settlements of Sesriem and Solitaire (famous for its apple pie) offer the closest camping to the park gates, letting campers reach the dunes before the morning heat and the tour-bus crowds. Sesriem Canyon itself is an easy afternoon walk from most campsites in the area.

Dune 45 Sossusvlei
Directions: 45 km from Sesriem Gate along a paved road, inside Namib-Naukluft National Park.
Activities: Climbing Dune 45 (about 170m high, best at sunrise); one of the most photographed dunes in the world.
Only a handful of properties inside the park gate offer early access before sunrise – check with your accommodation about gate times if this is a priority.

Nauams Rest Camp
Directions: Roughly halfway (about 153 km) between Windhoek and the Sossusvlei entrance gate.
Activities: Cycling and hiking trails, gravel scenic drives, Trail of Bones bushman painting hike.
Amenities:
- Private, well-spaced campsites with shower, braai, toilet and shaded sitting area
- Space for tents, overland vehicles and caravans
- Mountain cabins with wood-fired hot tubs also available

Neuhof Campsite
Directions: 53 km east of Sesriem and 120 km west of Maltahöhe on the C19.
Activities: Gateway to the Sossusvlei area.
Rate: From around N$14 pp (check current rates when booking).
Amenities:
- 5 campsites, up to 40 guests total, tents/mobile homes welcome
- Shared braai facilities

Camp Gecko
Directions: Camp Gecko is a private nature reserve located directly below the Spreetshoogte Pass, close to Solitaire.
Activities: Hiking, wildlife and waterhole viewing, and mountain scenery photography.
Amenities:
- Three individually designed campsites — Eagle, Moonlight and Hilltop — each with panoramic views
- Private bathroom (some open-air) with shower and toilet at each site
- Private BBQ area
- No electricity at sites, but secure charging stations available at reception

Kries se Rus Campsite
Directions: Kries se Rus is a NamibRand/Namib-Naukluft National Park campsite near Solitaire and the Gaub Pass, close to the main road.
Amenities:
- Unmanned campsite shaded by camel-thorn trees
- No facilities — bring your own water, firewood and equipment
Bookings: A permit from the Ministry of Environment and Tourism (MET) is required; sites are first-come, first-served and cannot be pre-booked. MET offices in Swakopmund, Walvis Bay and Sesriem are open Mon-Fri, 08:00-13:00 and 14:00-17:00.

Little Sossus Campsite
Directions: Little Sossus Campsite is on the edge of the Namib-Naukluft National Park, about 30km from Sesriem.
Activities: Early morning drives to Sossusvlei for sunrise, sundowner drives, and photography tours.
Amenities:
- Seven individual campsites and three family campsites
- Each site electrified with its own ablution facility and donkey-boiler hot water
- Undercover area for tents/campers at each site
- On-site shop for basic supplies

Namib’s Valley of a Thousand Hills
Directions: Located near Solitaire, midway between Windhoek, Swakopmund and Sossusvlei. From Solitaire, take the C14/M36 northwest, turn right onto the C26/M49, and after about 7.8km turn right onto a private road leading to the valley.
Activities: Hiking trails through the Guab Valley’s hills, wildlife viewing (kudu, bat-eared fox) and photography.
Amenities:

- Hot water at each ablution
- No electricity or lights at the campsites
