Namibia’s slice of the Kalahari spreads across the country’s south-east, a landscape of red sand dunes, camelthorn trees and wide-open savannah quite different from the rockier Namib further west. Game ranches and lodges around Mariental, Gochas and Koës offer dune-set campsites, guided nature drives and — at several properties — resident cheetah conservation programmes, making the Kalahari a good stop for wildlife viewing between Windhoek and the southern parks.
