Damaraland’s rust-red mountains and dry riverbeds are where Namibia’s desert-adapted elephants roam and where some of Africa’s oldest rock art survives at Twyfelfontein, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Community-run campsites along the Aba-Huab and Ugab riverbeds near Uis and Khorixas put guests within a short drive of the engravings, the Petrified Forest, and Brandberg Mountain — home to the famous White Lady rock painting — with a real chance of spotting elephant tracks in camp overnight.

    Directions: Brandberg Elephant Rock Campsite is in the Tsiseb Conservancy, about 40km west of Uis and 127km from Henties Bay.

    Activities: Mountain hiking, paragliding, and wildlife viewing (mountain zebra, springbok, ostrich). Close to the famous White Lady rock paintings at Brandberg Mountain.

  • Mowani Mountain Camp Campsite

    Mowani Mountain Camp Campsite

    Directions: Mowani Mountain Camp is located in the Uibasen-Twyfelfontein Community Conservancy in Damaraland, roughly 92km east of Khorixas and close to Twyfelfontein.

    Activities: Guided nature drives through the dry river beds of Damaraland, and excursions to nearby Twyfelfontein and the Petrified Forest.

  • Ozohere Campsite

    Ozohere Campsite

    Directions: On the Ugab River, 45 km north of Uis (right-hand side just past the D2344 junction), about 1h–1h20 from Twyfelfontein.

    Activities: Visits to the neighbouring Himba village, elephant tracking, local cooking classes.

    Amenities:

    • 5 campsites, each with braai and water point
    • Communal ablution block with warm showers and flush toilets
    • Luxury tents with private bathroom also available

  • Ugab Terrace Lodge & Camping

    Directions: Between Khorixas and Outjo, overlooking the Ugab terraces.

    Activities: One of the world’s longest zip lines (two runs of 860m and 650m, 50m drop); guided walking trails from 5–10 km.

    Amenities:

    • 3 standalone campsites (about 40m apart) shaded by mopane trees and rocks, each with braai, basin and fresh water

    Directions: On the C36, about 35 km from the Brandberg (home of the “White Lady” rock painting), reachable by normal sedan.

    Activities: Self-drive trips to the White Lady painting, visits to the old Uis mine area and waterhole (4×4 recommended), birdwatching at the on-site waterhole.

    Directions: Aabadi Mountain Camp is in the Twyfelfontein Conservancy in Damaraland, along the Aba-Huab riverbed, about 18km from the Twyfelfontein UNESCO World Heritage rock art site.

    Activities: Rock art excursions to Twyfelfontein, and chances to spot desert-adapted elephant and black rhino.

    Amenities:

    • 8 spacious campsites along the dry riverbed
    • Open-air shower and toilet with fire-heated water in the morning
    • Power available at reception (sites themselves have no electricity)

    Directions: Aba-Huab is on the D3254 off the C39, about 15km from Khorixas, along the dry Aba-Huab riverbed, 6km from Twyfelfontein.

    Activities: Rock art viewing at nearby Twyfelfontein, Damara cultural visits, and riverbed walks with a chance of spotting desert-adapted elephant.

    Amenities:

    • Multiple campsites along the riverbank with fireplaces, tables, benches and running water
    • Four ablution blocks with hot showers and flush toilets
    • Capacity for up to 120 guests

    Directions: Bambatsi Guest Farm is situated between Outjo and Khorixas, about 400km north of Windhoek and a 2-hour drive from Etosha.

    Activities: Day trips to Fingerklip, Twyfelfontein, and the Petrified Forest.

    The 5 self-catering chalets can be configured into 5 double en-suite rooms adjoining 5 double rooms with a family kitchen, breakfast nook, a living room which can sleep 2 – 4 children and own bathroom facilities – Rates ( please refer to Website) We also have a Restaurant on Site.

    The restaurant provides great Namibian breakfasts from 07h00 to 09h30, light meals (hamburgers, toasted sandwiches, chips) during the day and dinners from 18h00.     The BRC has a fully serviced Pub which provides a wide selection of beverages to cater to the tastes of the travelers and guests who pass through or who come to stay and enjoy the hospitality of our oasis at the doorway to Damaraland.     The BRC has a full sized Snooker table with spectator seating for those who want to enjoy the real thing. We also have Table Tennis, a Function Hall, Sundowner Cruise,
