Van Zyl’s Pass

Directions: A remote, difficult 4×4 route in Kaokoland; about 70 km south of Epupa Falls, then roughly 6 hours over rough terrain on the track itself. Recommended for experienced 4×4 drivers travelling in convoy (two vehicles minimum) – not for solo travellers.

Amenities:

• Otjihende campsite (20 km before the pass): 3 large sites with private ablutions (flush toilet, hot shower), kitchen sink and braai area. No booking necessary.
• Community campground at the top of the pass: 2 sites with toilets, hot showers and washing-up areas.

It’s recommended to camp at the top and descend the pass the next morning in daylight.
